Exhibition of sculptures 19.10. - 7.12.2011
Igor Kitzberger was born on May 24th, 1963 in Novy Jicin but he spent his youth in Roznov pod Radhosten, a town with which he has been faithful ever since.
The decision to become a sculptor was born in his father’s workshop, an artist blacksmith. From 1978 until 1982 Igor attended the Secondary School of Applied Arts in Turnov, in the department of artistic blacksmithing. He furthered his studies from 1984 until 1990 in the department of figurative and relief sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bratislava. He participated in scholarships to study in Perugia (1987) and Venice (1992).
Since 1990 he has engaged in creating sculptures from steel and bronze while using different sculptural and blacksmithing processes and technologies. Igor Kitzberger gives his work a finishing touch by use of patination – we can find gold and silver on the surface of his sculptures or the patina of blue and green. Among his favourite themes are anonymous dancers, musicians or actors as well as the great figures of Czech and world history – Charles IV, Jan Amos Komensky, Niccolo Paganini and Jean-Baptiste Gaspard Deburau.
